From old display cabinet to baby closet: a stylish makeover
There are few things better than giving an old piece of furniture a new lease of life and giving it a completely new function at the same time.
In this post, I’ll show you how I transformed an old display cabinet into a lovely place to store baby clothes.
With a little preparation, creativity and the right choice of colors, you can create a beautiful, individual piece of furniture.
Preparation is the be-all and end-all
Before we started painting, the most important thing was the preparation.
A good result always depends on how carefully you take your time at the beginning.
That’s why I first sanded the entire cabinet thoroughly to remove the old layer of paint.
Everything was then masked off neatly so that the paint only ended up where it was supposed to.
A primer ensures an even surface, especially on old wooden surfaces, and allows the colors to come into their own later.
The perfect choice of color: A harmonious interplay
For the exterior color of the cabinet, I chose Farrow and Ball’s Hay – a beautiful, dusty yellow that adds warmth and cheerfulness to the room.
The contrast with the dark wood, which I deliberately kept inside, creates a wonderful balance.
The natural wood gives the cabinet depth and a classic touch that harmonizes perfectly with the yellow exterior.
New colors for the shelves
Originally, the shelves were a strange mix of pink and salmon – a color choice that didn’t match the new, calm atmosphere of the closet at all.
I therefore repainted them in Farrow and Ball’s School House White, a soft, neutral shade of white that blends subtly into the overall look and gives the wardrobe a fresh, clean look.
A touch of coziness with textiles
To give the wardrobe some additional texture and warmth, I covered the back panel with the beautiful Vera’s Stripe fabric from Helene Blanche.
The delicate stripes add a little vibrancy without being obtrusive and make the piece of furniture even cozier.
This small but subtle accent not only makes the wardrobe practical, but also a real eye-catcher.
Functional and stylish: the perfect storage solution
To make the wardrobe functional, I fitted it with woven baskets from Tine K Home.
These fit harmoniously into the overall look and at the same time offer plenty of space for all the little baby utensils.
The baskets are not only practical, but also add a natural, organic touch to the design.
The result is a unique baby closet that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere with its colors and materials and is also practical for everyday use.
With a little preparation and the right choice of colors and textiles, even an old piece of furniture can tell a whole new story.
